PHOtosynthesis

By Craig Schneider

Fingerprint Gallery is thrilled to present “Photosynthesis,” a solo exhibition by Craig Schneider.

Inspired by the natural world, Photosynthesis reflects the quiet but tremendous transformation that occurs over time, both in nature and within ourselves.

The exhibition invites us to consider our great variety and interconnectedness, our relationship with each other and the environment, and our ability to be resilient, to burn, and to re-grow.

Capturing the spectrum of life from monochrome stillness to vibrant bursts of colour, each painting offers new insights with every glance as varying perspectives bring about fresh shapes and tones unique for each viewer.

Photosynthesis carries different energy for each observer, but, reminds us all that transformation is constant and beauty is found in even the most minor details.

“Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished.” – Lao Tzu

“Photosynthesis” opening reception is Friday, April 25th from 6pm - 9pm. The show is open daily from April 26 through May 4th.

About Craig Schneider

Born and raised in Vancouver, Craig Schneider spent decades focused on his family and personal career, setting aside his creative side. But in 2019, with newfound time and space, he picked up a paintbrush for the first time since high school—and has never looked back.

Entirely self-taught, Craig’s process is about exploration, learning through doing. Inspired by the rugged beauty of the Sunshine Coast and the ever-changing Salish Sea, painting has become his means of grounding himself in the moment, embracing the process without preconceived goals.

Over the past year, Craig has opened himself up to the wider community, sharing his works in a local gallery in Gibsons and participating in the Sunshine Coast Art Crawl. Through these experiences, Craig has found a deep connection with others, realizing that art is not only about personal discovery, but also about sharing that journey with those around him. His paintings speak to a universal experience, fostering dialogue and inviting others into the world he creates on canvas.

Reflecting on his artistic journey, Craig resonates deeply with Thomas Merton’s words: “Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.” Painting, for Craig, is not just about creating—it’s about discovering new dimensions within himself, while simultaneously surrendering to the process, allowing it to guide him to places he had never anticipated. Through sharing his art, he finds a sense of connection, both with himself and the broader community.
